One of CFA’s newer cat clubs originally grew out of one of its oldest. In February 2013, some newer members of the Nutmeg Cat Club (a CT-based club over 50 years old) were involved with putting on a cat show in Sturbridge, MA. The show coincided exactly with Winter Storm NEMO and bNemoTrottingCatWithFishecame known as “the blizzard show” or “the NEMO show.” Following the show, it became apparent that the newer group was more interested in exploring new ideas, alternative show formats, and creating a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere while the original Nutmeg organization was more focused on preserving its history and traditions. . . both perfectly valid purrspectives! Hence the founding of New England Meow Outfit, a CFA-affiliated cat club whose name was chosen to fit the N.E.M.O. acronymand commemorate the storm. The connection with Disney’s “Finding Nemo” followed naturally, and Coco Helmqvist, a club member and gifted artist, created a uniqe logo for the club.

N.E.M.O. put on its first show in the fall of 2013. Its current traditional show date is the fourth weekend of August every year. In 2019, N.E.M.O. became a Massachusetts nonprofit corporation and subsequently attained 501(c)(3) status.

We welcome potential new members at any time. Experience with purebred cats is appreciated, but not required. New England residence is also not required, as our monthly meetings are held via Zoom. However, prospective members must be committed to supporting CFA cat show activities in the New England area. To learn more, visit our Membership page.
